    Description
Every year in Europe, 41,000 tonnes of unprocessed plastic pellets end up in the environment, equivalent to more than 11 billion plastic bottles. All stakeholders in the sector are taking action to prevent environmental risks.

Actions to be implemented by manufacturers to prevent the loss of industrial plastic pellets into the environment:

  • Identify areas where industrial plastic pellets are likely to be accidentally released or spilled into the environment

  • Periodically check that the packaging used for the storage and transport of industrial plastic pellets is designed to minimise the risk of these pellets being released into the environment

  • Contain and collect daily any industrial plastic granules accidentally spilled on the site

  • Regularly clean the retention ponds and the area around the site

  • Make an inventory and regularly check that the equipment preventing industrial plastic granules from being released into the environment is in good working order

  • Train and raise awareness among staff working on the site

  • Carry out internal half-yearly checks of these procedures

  • Stages and process
