Goals

prestation-objectifs-seointro Sustainable Breton Wood Label :

The label, through compliance with the standard and the brand's rules of use, is a virtuous progress approach for stakeholders in the sector, encouraging the production and processing of an increasing amount of timber from sustainably managed Breton forests.

This label will provide the following guarantees:
- The forests producing the timber are located in a Breton department (29, 22, 56, 35),
- Forest harvesting is sustainable (respect for soils, biodiversity, etc.) and is carried out within a short supply chain with the initial processing,
- The management of labeled forests is sustainable and dynamic, focused on the production of timber while prioritizing CO2 removal.

Who is the Sustainable Breton Wood label for?

The scope of this standard covers the following activities:
- Forest owners located in Brittany who comply with the SRGS (Regional Sustainable Forest Management Scheme) of the Brittany region and have a validated sustainable management document (PSG, CPBS+, RTG),
- Forestry operators in the Brittany Region,
- Sawmills and processors in the Greater West region ensuring the processing and traceability of logs up to their production site.

For the Forest Owner activity
- Manage their forest in a Sustainable and Responsible manner
- Sustainably protect their forest and biodiversity
- Produce timber, remove CO2 and develop the regional short supply chain
- Adapt to and combat climate change

For the Forestry Operator activity:
- Control their forestry activities Safely, Sustainably and Responsibly
- Protect the forest, soils and biodiversity
- Protect the environment and waterways
- Develop the regional short supply chain

For the Sawyer activity:
- Control the traceability of wood in a Responsible manner
- Process Breton wood and Develop the regional short supply chain
Description
The "Bois Breton Durable" label highlights local timber from sustainable management, with the aim of anticipating global warming by eliminating a maximum of CO2 in a short supply chain logic.

By recognizing a local origin, a short supply chain operation, and the key role of the forest in CO2 elimination, this label is complementary to PEFC.

It responds to an increasingly important demand for regional certifications in Brittany:
- In support of the "forest, wood and territories" initiatives implemented by Breton local authorities: Brest, Quimper,...
- To promote products from the second transformation: cooperage...
- In the context of calls for tenders and building contracts

The GIE Forestier du Centre Bretagne and the Breton forestry unions have therefore decided to offer Breton forest owners the opportunity to choose a label that supports these issues.
