Description
The ISO 14001 standard is an international standard of voluntary application that aims to implement an Environmental Management System within companies and organisations of all sizes, and in all sectors of activity.
It is part of the ISO 14000 international standard framework (ISO 14000, ISO 14001 and ISO 14004...) which all concern environmental management.

The ISO 14001 standard defines precise requirements for an environmental management system (EMS) allowing an organisation to:
  • Determine its significant environmental impacts

  • Develop an environmental policy

  • Establish objectives

  • Take into account regulatory requirements

  • Establish processes allowing it to respect the commitments expressed in this environmental policy

  • Take the necessary actions to increase its environmental performance

  • It fully integrates into the EMAS ("Eco Management and Audit Scheme") application, created in 1993 by the European Union to frame voluntary eco-management approaches using an environmental management system (EMS).

    The ISO 14001:2015 standard

The current version of the ISO 14001 standard is that of 2015. This standard was published in September 2015 and replaces the ISO 14001:2004 standard.
It has a scope of action that has effects on both the certified organisation (or candidate for certification) and on interested parties (customers, partners, lobbies...).
